Clinical Examination

Enhance your skills on this three-day clinical examination course.

You will learn how to take a detailed clinical history and will develop an understanding of correct techniques for a complete ‘head to toe’ physical examination.

Develop clinical examination techniques and confidence by practicing your skills in a safe environment with highly qualified clinicians. The course is interactive with opportunities for lots of practice, case studies and case analysis.

After completion of the course each student will be encouraged to find a clinical champion who will supervise practice and provide mentoring – a service we can provide.

  • The importance of past medical history
  • Family history and its significance
  • Attributes of symptoms
  • How to document information covering abbreviations
  • Vital signs
  • Inspection, palpation, auscultation, percussion
  • HEENT
  • Examination of chest
  • Cardiovascular examination
  • Abdominal examination
  • Neurological examination
  • Endocrine system including thyroid
  • Mental status
  • The limbs and trunk: tone and power; sensation and coordination; reflexes
  • Locomotor system: examination: demonstration and practice: joint dysfunction; muscle dysfunction
  • Legal and professional issues
  • Competency-based frameworks and importance of mentoring
  • Medication review
  • Medication management including independent prescribing
