- Organization of a practice-based diabetes care programme

- Quality assurance, clinical audit and evaluation of diabetes care

To gain a comprehensive understanding of diabetes mellitus and current evidence-based management and expand understanding to:
- Decrease retinopathy blindness and end-stage diabetic renal failure
- Reduce amputations for diabetic gangrene
- Reduce the increased morbidity and mortality from coronary heart disease and stroke
- To normalise the outcome of pregnancy in women with diabetes
