World Health Day - Diabetes

Each year the World Health Organisation (WHO) celebrates its anniversary by highlighting a key disease. http://blogs.bmj.com/ebn/2016/04/03/beat-diabetes-who-world-health-day-april-7-2016/

This year it is diabetes and this sparked my attention – not only is it one of my pet subjects – the campaign fits neatly with my own experiences of looking after people with diabetes and teaching on the subject. http://www.who.int/campaigns/world-health-day/2016/posters/en/

I have over 20 years experience in teaching diabetes and it never ceases to amaze me that many folk do not know the difference between type 1 and type 2. We can work together to help PREVENT type 2 diabetes with some people BUT we can’t with type 1.

The course we run at Annie Barr Associates empathises this and participants are invited to discuss their role in working with people with diabetes and also “at risk” populations. Course delegates have always valued the high level of participation and that, coupled with high quality content, has enabled them to feel that they can improve the care they offer.

It is high time more focus was put on the wonderful work undertaken in primary care and the support needed to ensure that the care offered is skilled and knowledgeable. If you are interested but wary, we can help build your confidence and insights into working with people in your practice.
